There are a lot of things we forget to do in the daily rush of waking up, going to work, going home and just wanting to fall into bed. We forget to do stuff like fix the bed, brush our teeth, pay the bills or update yourself on the news. It isn't really much of a problem forgeting to do things like these. Then again, a wise person said, "It's the little things that really matter in life". You don't really have to lug a radio or television around with you to get updated. In the office, you could go to the recreation room or break room then tune in to the news. Pretty easy, but you only get to do it at certain times.
But what if you are in an occupation that requires you to be updated all the time? Being a financial analyst or stock broker, as an example, requires you to keep up on the happenings of the corporate world. How would it have been like if you were unaware of the Enron scandal? It would be disastrous to you financially and could possibly be the end of your career. Why should a client or company hire you when you are not aware of what's going on around you?
Keeping updated with current events, no matter how bleak they may be, is sometimes a must in our lives. Fortunately for us, the internet provides us with an opportunity to keep up with the news without the need for a newspaper, radio or television.
In recent years, internet resident companies have been using a "ticker" as a tool to update their list of clients on developments regarding their business. Other organizations using these convenient objects are financial sites such as finance.yahoo.com or bloomberg.com. Then you have weather sites like weather.com who also offer you the convenience of having weather forecasts on your computer desktop.
The ticker just takes up a little space on the screen. You could occasionaly glance at it just to see what goes on. If you find an interesting article, like the NBA finals being won by Miami, you just flick your wrist a little and twitch your finger to click on that particular headline and, viola, instant news. You could practically bring in the entire news desk of CNN with that tiny, 2 inch square feature on your desktop. You can then say things like, "I've got CNN working for me." or "The NHL keeps me updated every minute." or even better, "They got Bin Laden!".
And that is good news! |
